Background

A leading provider of global networking solutions, our client has aggressively expanded to meet the rapidly growing demand for its products and services. During explosive internet expansion in the mid-1990s, customer demand outstripped supply and our client thrived by simply growing fast. Since then, both the industry and our client have matured. In response, the client is launching a customer-centric, solutions-oriented global strategy, the success of which requires global leaders to translate corporate goals into local action, while executing quickly in an environment of increasing ambiguity, dispersion and diversity. To help them successfully execute this strategy, Trium was engaged to create a replicable, scalable leadership development program to foster leader mindsets and skills, while equipping the leaders to develop these same mindsets and skills in others.

Trium's Approach

Trium designed and executed a leadership development program that combined:

  • Rigorous self-assessment
  • Intensive, interactive, customized, multi-day workshops
  • Facilitated focus groups
  • One-on-one and small group coaching sessions

During the four-day program, Trium helped leaders recognize and shift mindsets that could otherwise compromise results. An example: replacing a predominant mindset that “headquarters is responsible for developing and communicating strategy; they tell me what to do” with “headquarters sets the direction, but I have the expertise and knowledge to determine the best way to execute in my market”. Working sessions included concept introduction, experiential activities and application of concepts to client-specific situations. Participants engaged with senior executives to understand global strategic issues, form initiatives and make recommendations. By the end of the program, leaders had embraced their power and responsibility to shape and drive strategy.

The program, consistently rated among the client's most effective leadership programs, broke down outdated mindsets that had been driving suboptimal behavior. Now, leaders from around the world are owning and contributing to the development of the global strategy. Teams are more effective. Leaders are thinking and acting differently. Knowledge- and skills-building activities continue focusing acutely on critical business issues.
