Change management in a highly distributed and consensus-driven organization

Global Public Sector

Background

A global multilateral organization striving to achieve sustainable food security and reduce poverty in developing countries through scientific research is facing many new global challenges and opportunities. The leadership knew these challenges would require a shared vision of the future of the organization, a greater ability to collaborate internally and externally and ultimately greater efficiency in product delivery. As part of a major effort of ongoing program reform, the leadership engaged Trium to determine the scope and focus of the change management process and recommend next steps. The ultimate goal – develop a comprehensive transformation plan and align and equip leaders across the organization to lead the change efforts.

Trium's Approach

Trium focused on helping create a compelling and meaningful change management proposal that would:

  • Prioritize short-term actions
  • Provide long-term direction for the organization
  • Create structures for increasing trust and collaboration across the organization
  • Re-energize and re-focus the organization

Trium's approach began with a discovery process to surface key issues and opportunities, as well as to identify and align on the answers to key strategic questions. Our approach included extensive global stakeholder interviews, an organizational assessment survey, a series of engagement workshops and chartering a “change team” to create organizational ownership and to ensure that broad perspectives were incorporated into the change management plan.

Client Impact

Together we paved a path toward execution, ensuring that leaders stayed motivated and confident that the results would reflect their intentions. The strategy was extremely well received by key stakeholders and has re-energized and aligned all parts of the organization in preparation for execution. Trium was re-engaged as a partner in supporting leadership with implementation of the change plan.
