Trium
Global Retailer
Equipping Leaders for Turnaround and Strategy Implementation
Background
A major, multi-brand international retailer offering clothing, accessories and personal care products to men, women and children confronted a tough market environment in 2001-2002. Leadership knew these challenges demanded a re-energized approach to strategy, which would ultimately be executed by front-line leaders. The executive team engaged Trium to design and deliver a series of leadership development and strategy planning sessions. The ultimate goal: align and equip leaders across the enterprise to lead strategy implementation efforts.
Trium's Approach
Trium's intensive leadership and management development program equipped regional and district managers with new leadership skills. The program translated strategic brand positions into specific management practices, while defining the high impact leadership mindsets and behaviors required to bring the brand positions to life.
From this foundation, Trium collaborated with the presidents of the brand organizations to:
- Set clear turnaround targets
- Increase their effectiveness as a team
- Support strategic initiative teams
- Secure organizational alignment via cultural change and communication
Client Impact
Leaders gained a clearer sense of their shared priorities and became better equipped to lead strategy implementation. A palpable sense that a new culture — one marked by leadership excellence, engagement and commitment — emerged throughout the organization. Both were evidenced by improvements in the number one metric that retailers watch: Increased comparative store sales year-over-year.
