Trium
International Energy Company
Developing leaders to run projects in an increasingly complex global environment
Background
Our client is a national oil company with an expertise in deep sea exploration and with a strong commitment to operating in a socially responsible manner. The client was transforming itself from a domestic to a global organization. It needed project leaders capable of heading international teams on large-scale projects under very complex and difficult circumstances – while supporting the company culture and ethical standards. To offer the program participants the best possible development, the client chose to have the faculty be a blend of top-notch academics and consultants, as well as talented executives from within the company.
Trium's Role
In partnership with the client and the Center for Executive Development at University of California at Berkeley, our team’s approach was two-fold: 1) We acted as the integration force ensuring that all content and activities delivered on the client’s objectives, and 2) We added leadership and strategy content appropriate to the level of sophistication of the program participants. Through a true partnership with the client, we became deeply familiar with the client’s goals and unique challenges. With that knowledge, we designed activities, experiences and presentations that produced the kind of desired transformation in participants.
The program spanned a full calendar year with 20 participants taking part in four week-long modules. In between modules, the participants engaged in pod work and received both individual executive coaching and coaching in their pods. As the participants progressed through the program, they prepared to teach cohorts, as well as catalyze change and development in the organization on a day-to-day basis.
Client Impact
The program was highly regarded within the company and the participants were viewed as the future leaders of the company. As a result of the program, they experienced an increased self and cultural awareness and felt equipped to manage complex international team dynamics. Participants rated the program as having exceeded their expectations and expressed a deep commitment, ownership and enthusiasm for their year-long development journey.
